The 6-Day Jesus Trail Hike from Tel Aviv allows you to hike the Jesus Trail with convenient transportation to and from Tel Aviv. This hike will take you on an unforgettable walk through history, culture, and spirituality. Journey through small villages, bustling cities, and sweeping farmland along a well-known trail where Jesus chose to carry out his ministry. Once you arrive in Nazareth, you will visit the old Roman Galilean capital: Zippori, the location of the first miracle in Cana, a fully-functioning religious Jewish Kibbutz, ancient olive groves, Mount Arbel, and of course – the Sea of Galilee. Along the coast, you will visit important churches, with the final destination being Capernaum: the center of much of Jesus’ ministry. An additional hike to the Mount of Beatitudes is optional, and recommended walk.

    Day 1
    Arrival in Tel Aviv

    Check in to your room at the Abraham Hostel in Tel Aviv.
    Relax in the friendly, common areas of the hostel or explore the city of Tel Aviv before
    you begin your journey up north. Enjoy an Israeli Cooking Workshop where you can
    learn to make Shakshuka, famous Middle Eastern dish for a fun and social dinner activity!

    Day 2
    Shuttle to Nazareth

    After breakfast at the Abraham Hostel, hop on the Abraham Bus to Nazareth. You will arrive in Nazareth midday to check in at the Fauzi Azar— an 18th-Century Arab mansion, complete with hand-painted ceilings and hanging chandeliers. Orientation for the trail will be scheduled for this day. A Jesus Trail staff member will meet you personally to go into detail about the Trail, taking in all of your questions and adjust the hike to your own preferences, and exchange contact details so you can call them at any point during the hike. You will be given a pack of everything you need, including a guidebook, maps, luggage tags, contact numbers, and itinerary.

    Spend the evening unwinding in the courtyard, surrounded by an ancient water fountain and greenery, or enjoy the sunset on the balcony. The Inn staff will take care of your needs so you can rest before your upcoming adventure.

    Day 3
    Nazareth to Cana 15.1 km

    Start your day with the healthy Arabic breakfast, and get ready to hike! Leaving the Old City through its 400 steps, you will immediately be treated to your first breathtaking view of the Galilean landscape. The trail begins en route to Zippori National Park, a fascinating archaeological site, where you will spend some time within its grounds before continuing through a small village and into the bustling city of Cana, the traditional location of Jesus’ first miracle. Your third night will give you the opportunity to experience authentic Arab hospitality and local cuisine in a comfortable, homey guesthouse.

    Day 4
    Cana to Kibbutz Lavi 14.7 km

    The morning begins with a home-cooked breakfast —fuel for another day of exploring! Enjoy the beautiful architecture of the houses as you leave Cana and descend through Beit Keshet Forest towards a section of the Roman Roads. As the ancient remains of the Roman road between Acre and Tiberias, it was likely the path used by Jesus on his journey from Nazareth to the Sea of Galilee. Then, you will continue on to Kibbutz Lavi, one of the few Orthodox religious kibbutzim, where you will spend the night in their modern hotel and experience a kosher buffet for dinner.

    Day 5
    Kibbutz Lavi to Moshav Arbel 17.1 km

    Another kosher meal sets you up for the day.
    You will leave the hotel and trail through the Kibbutz farm.
    The first stop of the day is ‘The Horns of Hattin’ where awe-inspiring 360 panoramic views greet you from atop this extinct volcano. Next, you take the path to Nebi Shu’eib, the holiest place for the worldwide Druze community. The final stretch of the day transports you back in time through old olive groves and ancient scenery, seemingly untouched by history, as you make your way to Moshav Arbel where a cozy bed and delicious meal await you!

    Day 6
    Moshav Arbel to Capernaum 18.5 km

    Breakfast will kick-start the incredible, final day of your journey. Starting with a walk to Mount Arbel National Park, you will soon have the chance to see the Sea of Galilee glistening in the morning sunlight. The trail takes you down the cliff-face and into Wadi Hamam, a Bedouin Village, before guiding you on to the Galilean coastline. You will reach the Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes at Tabgha before continuing on to the final destination. At Capernaum, the place that Jesus chose to make his ministerial base, you can explore the ancient site and applaud your hard work! You have just walked from Nazareth to Capernaum – just like Jesus did! Now, either wait for your shuttle to pick you up from there, or consider one more walk…to the Mount of Beatitudes to be picked up from there instead.

FAQ'S

Am I fit enough to hike the Jesus Trail?

Physical fitness is very personal and varies from person to person. Generally, you should be prepared to walk 16 km (10 miles) a day. You may wish to train in advance and build up to 10 miles a day, by starting with shorter walks.
Consult with a physician before taking the trail if you have arthritis or have had any surgery on your knees, hip, or ankle joints.
This trail is not recommended for those with high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, back pain, and other ailments that may affect your ability to walk long distances.

 

Are water sources available for refilling bottles during the hikes?

Water is readily available every few hours for most of the trail.

Is it safe to hike the trail and travel alone in Israel?

Many people walk the trail alone and have found this to be safe. Generally, locals tend to be exceptionally helpful and honored to have you coming through their towns and villages. There is always some risk with hiking alone in any part of the world, but the risk in the Galilee region is considered minimal.

How much money should I bring with me for the hike?

There are no fees to walk the trail. There are 3 national parks along the trail—Zippori (optional but highly recommended) and Arbel (the trail passes through this national park), and Capernaum that have a small entrance fee.
